AKC Reunite Microchip Enrollment & AKC Registration Completion
One of the most common questions I get is “Why should I complete my AKC Registration on my puppy? It really doesn’t matter if he/she is registered. I just want a great family pet.”
While I understand that, an AKC Registration is like a car title and legally proves ownership of your new puppy. We have experienced situations where a dog had been lost by it’s owner, the individual that found the dog insists on keeping it and ownership was challenged. This has happened even though the AKC Reunite Microchip was enrolled correctly to the legal owner. The individual that found the dog was so set on keeping it that they insisted they purchased it. Possession being 9/10 of the law, without the completed AKC Registration Certificate, ownership may have been lost! Even if you do not care about your dog being AKC Registered, we HIGHLY recommend that your family complete this registration within a few days after purchase. Simply having the puppy registered gives the proof of ownership that you may need in a difficult situation.
Enrollment of the AKC Reunite Microchip is just as important. Your puppy will already have an AKC Reunite Microchip implanted and completing the enrollment is mandatory. It is a small fee that provides s a lifetime of security and peace of mind. Please please please … complete this! Dogs have been lost and never recovered due to lack of identification.

Here is how to complete both the AKC Registration and the enrollment of the AKC Reunite Microchip :
AKC Registration
Your puppy is AKC Registered on a limited registration (as a family pet). A hard copy AKC Puppy Registration will be provided when you receive your puppy that is signed and ready for you to complete the ownership transfer.
The name of your new puppy must begin with “Lane Rae’s” in order for your health guarantee to be vaild. Please keep this in mind when you are completing your registration. The rest of the name is up to you. Often, if the new puppies name is Bailey (for instance), new owners decide to give the puppy their last name also. For instance : Lane Rae’s Bailey Smith. The name can be an elaborate one if you choose. Lane Rae’s Prince Bailey of Black Forest, for instance.
The AKC Registration can be completed in one of two ways -
The form can be filled out and mailed, with payment information, to AKC by USPS. This takes around 3 weeks to receive your Registration Certificate back.
Your AKC Registration can be completed online. Simply visit AKC.ORG and follow the prompts to complete the registration. Please note that they request an online PIN number to complete the registration online. They also request a number for full registration, which is not available for family pets and should be left blank. Completing the registration online normally is faster with a two week turn around to receive your AKC Registration.
