Discovering Your Perfect Puppy:
Selection Process and Visit Scheduling
We put our hearts and souls into breeding program and our puppies.
We sincerely hope that this shows through in the care and care and careful placement of our puppies.
Infectious Disease :
Beagle puppies do not have a fully functioning immune system and can become sick very easily, so we must take every precaution to keep them as safe as possible. Though they do pick up antibodies from their mother, and hold maternal immunity for a short period of time, there is no way to tell how well they are protected, or when that protection will wear off. It is unsafe and unwise to rely on maternal immunity for protection at any time.
Visitors can unknowingly carry viruses or bacteria on their shoes and clothing that could be very dangerous to the puppies. The most dangerous of these is Parvovirus which is highly contagious and has, in the distant past, caused the death of several litters. Watching the babies that we love suffer and die a horrible death, even with extensive care, is heartbreaking and one of the most emotionally draining events we have ever experienced.
To learn more about vaccines, how they work, immunity and the puppies recommended vaccine schedule, visit our “What’s Included” page that has information on vaccines, what they do and why we give them.
Stress Concerns :
All mothers have an innate instinct to protect their young, and even the calmest mother dog can experience stress when unfamiliar individuals are present. 🐾❤️ This stress can have lasting impacts on both her well-being and that of her litter. When strangers visit, it can cause our dogs to alert us to potential danger, which heightens their stress levels.
The effects of this stress can be significant, disrupting the mother’s routine and potentially reducing her milk production. Her puppies may sense her distress, which can lead to slower growth rates, increased susceptibility to illness, and the development of anxious behaviors. Ensuring a calm and stable environment is key to the health and happiness of both the mother and her puppies. 🌼🐶
To ensure the utmost safety and well-being of our puppies, we prioritize their health by restricting visitor interactions until they have been vaccinated, which usually happens at 7-8 weeks of age. 🐶✨ This precautionary measure helps protect them during their most vulnerable stage.
It's important to exercise caution with breeders who allow interactions with young, unvaccinated puppies, as this can pose significant health risks. Our commitment is to provide a secure and nurturing environment that supports the healthy development of our puppies. 🏡💖
How Puppies are Selected :
At Lane Rae Beagles, we strive to help direct each family to a puppy that perfectly aligns with their preferences. Families have the freedom to specify any criteria they wish, such as sex, color, pattern, size, and energy level. Alternatively, you may choose to be offered any available puppy without specific parameters. 🐶✨
Puppies are offered to families based on the order in which deposits are submitted. When a puppy matching your preferences becomes available, we'll reach out to the first family on our reservation list. For example, if you’re interested in a male, black, tan, and white puppy, that’s exactly what you’ll be offered. If your preference is for a moderate-energy puppy regardless of sex or color, we’ll present options that meet those criteria. Remember, the choice is yours, so feel free to ask as many questions as you need about any puppy offered. 🏡💖
Once puppies are ready to join their new families we welcome in-home visits. Families on our waiting list can choose a puppy or remain on the waiting list for up to 18 months from the date of deposit. We provide photos, videos and detailed information from final evaluations. We can also occasionally arrange video calls or Zoom meetings, weather permitting.
It's important to note that not every puppy from a litter may be available, as we retain select show prospect puppies to continue our program. We will share photos and videos of the puppies as they grow. While you can have a favorite, we recommend not becoming too attached until final evaluations are complete and availability is confirmed.
The distinction between a family companion and a show prospect can be subtle—such as ear length or tail carriage—and might not be noticeable to the untrained eye. We have placed many show-quality puppies as pets, depending on which puppies will best contribute to the breed's improvement at the time. 🐾💡
